From the first impression of ink on paper to the final bound volume on the shelf — Whitehall Printings unites centuries-old printing tradition with the highest standards of literary publishing.
Our Heritage
Founded in 1987 in the heart of Westminster, Whitehall Printings began as a single letterpress studio. Our founders believed that a beautifully printed book was not merely a vessel for words — it was itself a work of art. That belief has never changed.
Today our press operates both heritage letterpress machines — including a restored 1924 Heidelberg Platen — alongside state-of-the-art offset and digital presses. Every book that leaves our bindery carries the Whitehall hallmark: exquisite presswork, acid-free papers, and hand-sewn signatures that are built to last centuries.
We are printers. We are publishers. We are guardians of the written word in its most enduring, physical form.
Original moveable type printing on dampened cotton papers — the oldest and most tactile form of the printer's art.
Smyth-sewn signatures, cased hardcovers, Japanese cloth spines, and hand-applied headbands — bound to outlast generations.
Expert composition in traditional typefaces set to exacting measures — because how words sit on the page matters as much as the words themselves.
Real gold, silver, and coloured foils impressed into cover boards and spines — the mark of a truly distinguished edition.
What We Offer
From raw manuscript to printed masterpiece, our in-house team handles every stage of the journey — with the precision of craftspeople who have spent their careers at the press.
We run both heritage Heidelberg letterpresses and modern offset presses, producing print of unrivalled depth and clarity. Short limited runs or large commercial editions — both treated with equal care.
Enquire NowOur master binders hand-sew every signature, case hardcovers in cloth or leather, and apply gold foil to spines. The result is a volume that will stand on shelves for a hundred years — unchanged.
Enquire NowOur award-winning editors provide developmental, line, and copy editing. We work closely with each author to elevate the work without erasing the voice — the rarest skill in publishing.
Enquire NowCover design, interior typesetting in classical typefaces, running heads, chapter ornaments, and maps — everything that makes a book beautiful to hold open and read.
Enquire NowBeyond the press room, we deliver your title as a precision-formatted eBook and audiobook, and offer print-on-demand fulfilment so your book is never out of stock.
Enquire NowOur distribution partnership places Whitehall titles in bookshops, libraries, and literary festivals across five continents. We negotiate trade terms and manage returns on your behalf.

How We Work
Submit your manuscript via our online portal. Every submission is read by a senior editor and receives a considered response within eight weeks — always.
A dedicated editor guides your work through developmental, copy, and proof stages. Our compositors then set the text in a classical typeface chosen to complement the writing.
We run press proofs on your chosen paper stock, adjust ink weights until the presswork is perfect, then hand the sheets to our binders for folding, sewing, and casing-in.
We orchestrate your book's debut: press copies to literary reviewers, placement in independent bookshops, appearances at book fairs, and a sustained digital campaign.
Author & Client Voices
Holding the finished letterpress edition of my novel was one of the most moving moments of my career. The presswork, the paper, the binding — every detail was considered and flawless.
As a small press ourselves, we needed a printing partner who understood what fine book production truly means. Whitehall's offset work is the finest we have ever seen. Our customers notice the difference immediately.
The foil-stamped, cloth-bound limited edition of my poetry collection is simply breathtaking. Whitehall treated every page as if it were a work of art — because it is. I could not ask for better partners in print.
